History & ArchaeologyRing Doris on 01249 653102 for further detailsThanks to Jean for bringing the story of Ireland right up to date. This was the overlap between history and our own personal experiences, and I think we have all had to re-examine our opinions of the Irish problem in the light of what we have learnt this year. Only three more meetings before the summer break: 1. Our regular June meeting will be about the cultural heritage of Wales, Scotland and Ireland. 2. Our special social meeting on July 9th (NB. this is a change of date from the previous Newsletter) will be a bit of fun and will be held at 33 St Mary Street rather than at the Old Vicarage. For catering purposes, please tell Betty at our next meeting if you will be able to join us. 3. An archaeology meeting on the archaeology of Menorca will be led by Doris on Friday July 30th, back at the Old Vicarage. Next year's programme has been decided upon. The theme will be 'Great ideas that changed the World'. We have selected key historical people whose names are familiar to us but with whose ideas, although very influential, we are not fully conversant. So we have included Confucius, Erasmus, and Karl Marx among others. If anyone else would like to join us, we do now have room and would love to welcome you. Although the sessions are usually led by members of the group, no one is expected to contribute and it is fine just to come and listen. Doris can give you more details. Betty Coleman
